Dorie's Stories
Once upon a time, there was a little girl named Dorie who loved to read in the closet of her parent’s store. In her imagination, Dorie transformed the closet into a magical forest where stars twinkle overhead, rocks are as soft as pillows, cap-wearing monkeys hang from vines, and words and letters dance on a wall. Dorie’s special place provides a space for children and their adults to share the magic of books together.
“Dorie’s Stories” is made possible through a generous gift from the Nason Family in honor and memory of lifelong reading enthusiast Doris C. Nason. Exhibit design and creation by kryout ARTS. More interactive early literacy activities to do at home.
Life in a Log
A giant tree has fallen over in the Museum and now it’s “rotting” on our floor. Life in a Log gives children a bug’s eye view of a fallen log as a habitat. Many hands-on activities and a giant 8-foot “log” help children see forest life cycles and explore with creatures living inside decaying logs. A bug maze, animal puppets, and conservation activities make Life in a Log a young explorer’s heaven. A tent and a boat are also on hand for camp outs or fishing trips.
The Dental Clinic
sponsored by Delta Dental of Wisconsin
Our newest permanent exhibit offers great opportunities for role playing and learning about the importance of healthy teeth. Kids can: wear a lab coat, check x-rays, lie in the dentist’s chair, brush & floss an oversize mouth, read a book about teeth, play with a toothy smiled puppet and more!
Farm to Market
How does the food we eat get from Farm to Market? CWCM's Farm to Market exhibit allows visitors to explore the journey of local vegetables from farm to market. Children learn by harvesting a crop, loading up a food pyramid truck, stocking the shelves and then shopping at our deluxe grocery store with hundreds of items to choose from. Young children improve sorting and grouping skills while older children learn about food groups and the food pyramid.
In the Nest
Two larger-than-life Robins welcome babies and toddlers into a cozy nest with lots to explore. Pull toys, puzzles, peephole birdhouses, and books designed for children three and under are scattered In the Nest. A learn-your-colors ball drop delights as youngsters try to figure out exactly where the ball will appear. There are plants to put in pots and a giant compost bin to crawl through complete with bug puppets and giant leaves.
Make It Paper
The Museum has it all when it comes to creative science and art projects. Our Make it Paper room is overflowing with art materials for the aspiring artist and simple science experiments are available for the inquiring scientist. Special themed projects and activities, including a book of the week and corresponding art project, change weekly. Great for all ages!
Acting Up
The stage at CWCM takes play-acting to a new level with dozens of costumes, instruments and sound equipment. Children can put on a play, perfect their comedy routine or try out a new song.
Build It!
Castles, forts, skyscrapers or a special house are just waiting to be built. The Museum’s Build It exhibit includes giant Legos, foam blocks and waffle tiles so kids can create the building of their dreams.
